Balkans New Symposium

American-Greek-Romanian Initiatives to Enhance Understanding of Multicultural Market Opportunities, Trade and Development

November 9, 2006

Polytechnic Campus, Union Cooley Ballroom C

The symposium will be held based on the developments of the research project from Greece/Romania achieved by the ASU Team in the Study Tour from September 02, 2006 to September 11, 2006, funded by USDA/SCREES' ISE program.

We’ll have important discussions with students, faculty, businesspersons and our Greek/Romanian partners regarding our engagement vis-à-vis globalization, the mutually beneficial trade and of course the export potential for Desert Durum Wheat and Cotton.

1.      Peace and Prosperity through Food and Agribusiness Marketing: genesis, evolution, current focus – presented by Dr.Clifford J. Shultz, 30 minutes

2.      An overview of Cotton/Desert Durum Wheat based on the experiences from the Study Tour to Greece – NAMA students/faculty presentation, 30-40 minutes

3.      The presentation vis-à-vis the Balkans and Black Sea Region Projects, the perspectives on Agribusiness, Education and Regional Integration made by the Romanian/Greek scholars.

Students, scholars and businesspersons from USA, Romania and Greece who understand globalization's importance decided to meet again in order to discuss about multinational market opportunities.

Sharing their experiences and knowledge they were able to find opportunities to enhance the international trade and development.

Finally and most important, the participants analyzed the Balkans attitudes toward some of the Arizona products like: desert durum wheat and cotton. Based on students' field trip to Greece and Greek/Romanian scholars presentations it turned out that these products have high market potential in Southeast Europe, especially in Romania and Greece.
